This is a very important book. Many women (and men) are lonely in their marriages. And tired of the drudgery of fighting to keep them going. They just want to be happy. The lure of a new beginning or a fresh start is strong. They want to run away from the pain and sorrow and try again. “The Ground Beneath Us” gently and compellingly explores the real ramifications of continuing down that path. It exposes some of the lies we believe and internalize that keep us from recognizing the dangers of the run-away mentality. No, this is not a “self help” book – it is a novel. The characters are believable and well developed. Their story is thought-provoking and even haunting at times as Allord so accurately depicts real life. Their story will lead you to ask new questions about your path and direction. It will encourage you to run away from deception and run toward things that genuinely lead to a full life. This book has the potential to enrich marriages and hearts, and I would highly recommend it. If you are just looking or a good curl-up-with-a-coffee read, you’ll find it here. But if you want to let Holly, Anna and others influence your thinking, they can do that too. Congratulations to Rachel Allord on another successful novel.
Rachel Allord's characters are so real and tangible . A beautiful story and refreshingly brutal honesty in this book grabbed me. I cried and laughed and loved it.
I'll read to the end of the chapter...not...my treadmill companion for the last seven days!characters come to life. Beautiful picture of true friendships walking through the thrills and agonies of life.
This book was a great read! Good character development , good story line , descriptive and witty, well written, very believable for our times. I loved the way the author addressed the complexity of marital issues and how common they are . Very insightful way she wove all of this into a great story I couldn't put down! I highly recommend this book! Keep writing Rachel!
I laughed. I cried. I highly recommend The Ground Beneath Us! Allord's characters are so honest and relatable. They grabbed me from the start and wouldn't let go. Keep writing, Rachel. I look forward to the next one.
I read this book when it was first available on and I still remember the story very clearly. This, in spite of the fact that I have probably read 50 novels since then! Rachel presented such a compelling set of characters and their feelings were so honestly visible. It was a novel which left me hopeful about the state of marriage, in spite of all I see around me. After 53 years with the man I love, I want everyone to experience what we have!
Great book....could not put it down. Loved that it centered around Wisconsin. The characters in the story came to life and I felt like I was walking in their shoes...or should I say running. Can't wait for Rachel's next book.
